The 250-year-old Trent & Mersey Canal provides the historic and cultural spine to the Trent Valley. Improvements to surfacing, signage and access for walkers, cyclists, canoeists and boaters are reconnecting communities with both this historic environment and the wider landscape.
This access improvement scheme is providing an upgrade to sections of the towpath that have been highlighted through our development phase Access Audit. These improvements will be to the benefit of multiple users including people with disabilities, walkers, cyclists and anglers.
The Trent and Mersey Canal is over 250 years old and is an important part of the heritage of the Trent Valley. The towpath improvements will be maintained in the future by CRT and will be enjoyed by a large and diverse range of canal users including walkers, cyclists, canoeists and boaters. The improvements ensure that the length of the canal in the landscape remains safe, open and accessible into the future and provides an excellent access route to other parts of the Trent Valley.
