Protecting place

Landowners and landscapes

Landowners, farmers, and land managers are the first line of protection when it comes to our landscapes. They are the custodians, guardians and stewards of these places for the future. Working together we can find ways to protect and enhance the historic and natural environments.

We have established good working relationships with farmers and landowners and are working together to find ways of enhancing our landscapes, protecting the historic environment and ensuring that the guardians and stewards of our shared landscapes can make a living. As a responsible body, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust can administer conservation covenants, which can be used for the protection of landscapes for historic, environmental and other reasons. During the course of the Trent Valley Past & Present project we will seek to broaden our work and investigate ways to use conservation covenants and other methods of protecting landscapes whilst ensuring farmers and landowners receive fair recompense.
